The Animals of D.E.L.T.A. Rescue
In a small town in the hills north of Los Angeles a special place exists. D.E.L.T.A. Rescue, a unique no-kill animal sanctuary for dogs, cats and horses.
All the residents of D.E.L.T.A. are animals that have been found abandoned in and around the greater Los Angeles area. Once found, the animals will be brought back to D.E.L.T.A. given medical care (including altering), food and attention. If they are ill, they are nursed back to health.
Once dogs are healthy, they are fixed and then paired with their new companion for life and moved into their forever home: a large chainlink run outfit with an adobe home (built from 20 bails of hay and adobe), toys, plentiful water and feedings. The animals will spend the rest of their lives here, in their run with their lifetime doggy companion. They will continue to receive attention and medical attention for the rest of their natural lives.
Cats are moved into a house on the property that is spectacular! Divided out to keep various groups of cats separated for various reasons, the entire house is encased by a chain link cage. This cage provides protection and security for the cats by keeping them in and any high desert predators out! Within their enclosure are miles of elevated cat walkways, interspersed with 'cat houses' along the way for the felines to hide out in or stretch out along. Inside the house, scratching posts, futons covered with old quilts and rugs line the floor. Five large litter boxes line one wall and the entire house? Is taken over by cats. They are everywhere! The entire facility is immaculately clean. The animals, and I met a lot of them, are well socialized, healthy and friendly. When D.E.L.T.A. Rescue founder Leo Grillo enters a cage the dogs seem to know him and know that without him, their future would have been very grim indeed. Click the picture for a full set of portraits of these special animals. For more information, or if you'd like to consider providing support, please visit D.E.L.T.A. Rescue
